Skyrim: All Hirelings (& How to Hire Them)

This guide will help you find and hire all possible underlings so check out our Skyrim Hirelings Locations guide to build up your army.

Hirelings are basically mercenaries or friendly allies that will help you fight your battles at different locations for some gold. You can dismiss them anytime you want but if you want to rehire them again, you’ll need to pay 500 gold again. This guide will give you all the Skyrim Hirelings Locations so you can hire these mercenaries.

Skyrim Hirelings Locations

Each hireling has its unique style of combat that will level up automatically side by side as you level up. You can choose the hireling that compliments your game style. Furthermore, each mercenary, barring Teldryn Saro, has a ceiling cap of Level 40; for Teldryn Saro, the cap is at Level 60.

Dismissing a mercenary will send them back to the tavern you originally found them in, unless they are married, request to become stewards, or are drafted into the Blades, in which case they will be sent to a different location. Therefore, make sure you’re aware of this information before dismissing them, as you might have to travel a bit further if any of this applies to them

Belrand

  • Location: You can find this follower in Solitude.
  • Class: Spellsword
  • Race: Nord
  • Gender: Male
  • Max Level: 40
  • Marriageable: Yes
  • Blades Recruit: Yes
  • Steward: Yes
  • Skills and abilities: One-handed, Light Armor, Destruction, Restoration.

Belrand is a skillful magician and physical attacker who works for you as soon as you pay 500 Gold as his fee. He is one of the easiest hirelings, owing to his frequent appearance at the same place. Apart from being a ruthless mercenary, he can also be considered a candidate for marriage if you feel like so.

Erik the Slayer

  • Location: He can be recruited in Rorikstead, a small village in Whiterun.
  • Class: Barbarian
  • Race: Nord
  • Gender: Male
  • Max Level: 40
  • Marriageable: No
  • Blades Recruit: Yes
  • Steward: Yes
  • Skills and abilities: Two-Handed, Archery, Light Armor, Block.

Despite being from a humble background, Erik gets the striking name “the Slayer”. He is a Barbarian and if you want to recruit him, you need to complete the ‘Erik The Slayer’ quest. He favors two-handed weapons and light armor in combat, though his personality is not as fierce as his mighty name would suggest.

FYI

Although he can’t be taken into marriage, Erik is a potential candidate who can join the Blades.

Vorstag

  • Location: Vorstag can be recruited in Markarth.
  • Class: Warrior 1-H
  • Race: Nord

  • Max Level: 40
  • Marriageable: No
  • Blades Recruit: Yes
  • Steward: No
  • Skills and abilities: One-Handed, Heavy Armor, Archery, Block.

Vorstag is a really quick and cool ally, though he doesn’t have an extremely unique personality to go with him. While in combat, his main focus remains on one-handed weapons and archery. Vorstag is a good marriage contender and can also be recruited as a Blade.

Marcurio

Marcurio is an apprentice Mage having keen interest in destruction magic. You can marry him after paying his 500 Gold hire fee. Marcurio is one of the most formidable companions you can have, and he made his way this high majorly through his silver tongue.

Apart from being a promising husband, Marcurio can act as a Steward and also can be recruited in Blades.

Stenvar

Stenvar is a Knight who has dialogues that make him quite a jolly fellow in Skyrim. His fondness for fight doesn’t stop him from being a sarcastic person. He is a perfect marriage partner, a fighting ally, and a Blades recruit. Two-handed weapons are his favorite thing, though he won’t feel reluctant cutting enemies down with One-Handed weapons too.  Stenvar can surely be a reliable ally who never lets you get bored in your play. However, he can’t be your Steward.

Jenassa

  • Location: Jenassa can be recruited in Whiterun.
  • Class: Ranger
  • Race: Dunmer

  • Max Level: 40
  • Marriageable: Yes
  • Blades Recruit: Yes
  • Steward: No

Jenassa is an Archer with a charming personality. She is a dark elf hireling who works for you after receiving 500 Gold. This female Ranger favors a bow and likes to be married to an appropriate husband. She doesn’t hesitate while using melee weapons. Jenassa may exhibit glitches like infinite arrows in her fights.

Did You Know

Jenassa is the only female hireling you can have as a companion. She’s also the only one who can dual-wield One-handed weapons.

Teldryn Sero

  • Location: Can be found either in the Retching Netch or Raven Rock.

Teldryn Saro specializes in One-Handed Combat and is proficient in the Destruction and Conjuration schools of magic. He is a loyal companion and has quite an interesting backstory, which keeps you out of boredom in your gameplay. You can’t marry Teldryn Sero, but can surely make him a Blades recruit.

Note: Teldryn Sero can only be hired if you have the Dragonborn DLC.
